I used to have one those when I was a kid.

Sadly, nearly all of the cars I had when I was a kid immediately left the package, so they're long gone.

All I've got now are NASCAR ones. Three of them.

One of them, being the 2001 Daytona 500 Pontiac Grand Prix, the other two being Chevrolets (2004 Team Caliber #48 Monte Carlo promoting the SpongeBob movie, and 2008 Winner's Circle AMP Energy Impala).

Although many of my old ones are gone, I can still recall a lot of them.

Hmm. I used to have a 20th Anniversary Mercedes in gold like this one.

Kinja'd!!!

Kept it for years (opened and played with, of course), hoping it'd be worth something. Just checked ebay, one sold for $1.29 I wonder if I still have it packed away somewhere...?

This was the elusive one.

I started a collection of First Editions for my then 3 year old son in '95. By '97, we would search together for FE's. Kept up with it through 2007-ish(?) We collected complete sets for every year, except for that VW Bus. Got crazy for a while with color and wheel variations - probably 5-6 bins of on-the-card cars stored away. For a while we had a lot of fun searching. They won't be worth a fortune because there were more old dudes in the die cast car aisle then than there were kids, so there are a million collectors out there - but we still got bins of cool toy cars, which will always be intrinsically more fun than baseball or Pokemon cards.

I should pick up that bus from eBay.
